A Man With The One Eye

To recollect those cherished memories of the 2014 Winter when I went for my medical checkup at Mongar Referral Hospital after I got accident, a man who was in the late '60s was also referred from Samdrup Jongkhar hospital for his left eye operation. Accidentally, we met in the hospital since our chamber was just the opposite from the same entrance.

To my notice, he was partially deaf maybe because of old but never thought that he knows only Lhotsamkha(Nepali). I was extremely wondering when such an illiterate farmer came to the hospital where it's much bigger then he expected. But I was grateful to him for being smiling all the time besides many sicknesses and that's what makes me crazy to blust our talks sitting nearby him.

Before my turn, he went to see a doctor. It was his appointment day I guess. A doctor who was a foreigner checked his eyes and speaks in English.  I was hearing outside but never attentive to their conversation. He came out after some time and he went out as I enter for my turn.  It was just my X-ray and it took short time. When I went back, I met again at the parking. He came talking about our check-up. Upon asking him, he plans to come the next day since he couldn't understand anything from a foreign Doctor. I was a bit worried and then, I took him back to his doctor to know what he is supposed to do.  This time,  the doctor told me that he needs to do an operation and the operation day is after 2days. He was told to come after two days.

I told him about what the doctor told me about him.  That time, he cried for me. He told me that, he has five children and are all illiterate. The work in the field and have a family too. He couldn't send them to school because of poverty. As a villager, earning seems so less for their sustainability and that's why he came alone to minimize the cost for his medication. We headed to the town where he got a room and I do. We went to his hotel and I canceled his room because I do have a double bed and we can spend together.

That night, he cried over our talks based on education. He was not sent to school by his parents and he neither could be sent his kids too. Today's world needs more education than anything.  He struggled a lot with miscommunication because of education and his children might feel the same. Education is indeed a life for our living. Everywhere, anytime education never fails to guide you once you have it.

Today, he conveys the importance of education not only to get a job but to lead life. He made his grandchildren for education and he urges everyone to education. He became a source of inspiration to many youths when he shares his incidence in Mongar Referral Hospital due to a lack of education. Let's educate our children. Education has no value unless someone is in needy.

Let us feel proud of ourselves educating.
